About the Artist

Constructing Silence and Illusion: Classical Technique in the 21st Century
Exploring Western classical oil painting techniques—particularly 17th-century Dutch painting—I currently work almost exclusively on copper plates.
Through traditional layering, meticulous control of transparency, and rigorous attention to detail, my goal extends beyond simple naturalistic representation. Incorporating the aesthetics of trompe-l'œil, which creates three-dimensional space and tactile presence on a flat surface, I build structures where the boundaries between the image, the frame, and the surrounding space gently blur.
By reinterpreting centuries-old painting techniques and material qualities through a contemporary lens, I aim to create a rich visual experience—one that invites viewers to move between visual reality and the painted fiction of the material object, all within a sense of quietude.
Goals and Future Vision
-
Deepening Historical Research: Continuously researching historical manuscripts and traditional materials to push the boundaries of classical oil painting in a contemporary context.
-
Integrating Painting and Frame: Developing works where the painted image, support, and frame unite seamlessly, presenting the painting as an integrated physical object within space.
-
International Engagement: Presenting highly refined works to an international audience, contributing to the global dialogue surrounding contemporary realism and classical techniques.
